FORMER MOE MATH & SCI TEACHER I am Mr. Teo, a fulltime tutor with Master of Education from NIE and Certified Google Educator. I have over 10 years of experience in tutoring and have taught fulltime in MOE schools for 7 years. When time permits, I conduct Math/Science Olympiad Workshops and other enrichment programs (e.g. Scratch Coding) in schools. I believe my qualifications and experience have equipped me with the necessary teaching skills to work with my current pool of students from various Primary and Secondary schools, as well as International schools. My greatest achievement thus far is guiding a student who was failing in tests to eventually enrolling herself into the Integrated Programme in National Junior College, a testimony to the level of success I am committed to bringing each of my learners to. Through rapport building, I strive to instill a love of learning and a desire for constant improvement within each student. My strength lies in harnessing webbased technology to stimulate students’ thinking, and the use of simple and effective strategies to achieve mastery learning. I have worked with students of various levels and achievements and constantly innovate on my coaching methodology so that my students can enjoy learning Maths and Science under my guidance. I aspire to be more than just a tuition teacher who improves students’ results, but an education coach who mentors students towards personal excellence. As a firm believer of lifelong learning, I always think of ways to expand my skillsets in order to stay relevant in today’s context. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Applied Finance. As an ACTA certified trainer, I have also worked with adults in the area of office productivity. I look forward to sharing my experiences with my learners both young and old, and inspiring them to seek constant upgrading in all aspects of their lives.

I have an avid interest in math and chemistry and the thirst for seeking out new knowledge. In my Junior college years, I have clinched a silver in the Singapore chemistry olympiad and a distinction in the Rio Tinto Big science competition in 2008. In 2009, I won a distinction in the Nanyang Concept Test. In my Secondary years, I represented my school in 2006 Singapore Statistical Poster Competition and clinched merit for it. I also joined the Australian maths competition in 2004 and 2006, clinching certificates of credit and high distinction respectively. I have taught O levels and A levels Math to many students and am confident to teach Math Olympiad. I believeI have the aptitude to allow the student to improve as I have patience and professionalism. With professionalism, I am able to observe my student's expression and body gestures to determine whether the student understands what I have taught, and would be able to change my teaching strategies to the student absorption rates. Currently, I have 5 IB chemistry students on hand, 2 of them taking HL chemistry and the other 3 taking SL chemistry. My students normally improve at least 1 grade after my tutoring. 2 of the HL chemistry studentsimproved from 50+ to 70+ in 6 months and 1 of the SL chemistry studentsmaintained at 80+ marks. Apart from IB, I have taught one Secondary 2 student from SCGS and was able to improve her science grades from C5 to B3. I have also taught a Junior College 2 student from Jurong Junior College Chemistry and raised his grades from C to B. Lastly, I taught a Secondary 4 boy from St. Joseph Institution Maths and raised his grades from C6 to B3.

I'm a current fulltime tutor specialising in O Level Math and Science and I’m also familar with the IB syllabus. All of my students have had improvements in their grades for major exams, majority achieving As and high Bs. I’m committed to help students understand and grasp the key concepts and principles behind the subjects they are learning. I have performed well myself at GCE A and O levels, and was awarded a scholarship with the largest professional services firm in Singapore which I have joined for four years after graduation, working on accounting and tax for multinational conglomerates and large financial institutions. I am currently a fulltime tutor to engage in facetoface work which I am more passionate about. I have a good understanding of exam techniques and key concepts that are usually tested in the syllabus, and I try to help students understand what is required of them to achieve the necessary marks. I usually explain problems by breaking them down to simple and understandable parts and I’ll guide the students stepbystep on the logic of achieving the answers. I’m very patient with the explanation and drilling process to make sure they have a firm foundation in the core principles of the subject matter and I don’t stinge on effort and time. I also try to build positive rapport with the students so I can communicate with them better to identify and help with their problem areas.

I've been a top student since my primary school days. I began tutoring when I was in Junior College as part of a community service project.I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have been hooked ever since. I have received feedback from many that I have the ability to explain complex concepts in a simple manner and am a natural teacher. This is the reason for me to pursue full time tutoring despite many other opportunities in the corporate sector. I have been awarded numerous academic awards from my PSLE up till Junior college. I completed my Mechanical Engineering degree on a scholarship. I have a particularly strong interest in Maths and Physics. For the past 7 years, I have tutored around 10 students from varying backgrounds and education levels. Quite a few of the students were failing maths badly and on the verge of giving up. But all of these weak students eventually ended up passing their major examinations comfortably, ranging from PSLE to A levels. I do not believe in drilling students but focus on how to make them interested in learning the subject. I aim to make my students feel a sense of satisfaction when they master a concept. This will ultimately make the learning experience more fulfilling. I feel that the grades obtained by a student serve only as a yardstick to measure their progress and try not to focus too much attention on them. When the student enjoys learning the subject and puts in the effort, good grades will follow. I continually strive to make learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience for my students. I look forward to hearing from you! Update : I have 5 years of experience as a fulltime tutor. Having coached quite a number of students of various backgrounds and learning abilities, I have been able to become more adaptable and flexible in the teaching style employed. I always try to cater to what works best for the student and aim to maximize learning and understanding during the lessons. Hi! I am Stanley, and I have been a fulltime tutor since 2014. I scored distinctions for all subjects that I teach from primary to junior college level, and I believe I am in an excellent position to be an allrounded tutor. I have taught students of varying academic abilities and characters, and also students from international schools (UWC SEA). I also teach students from IP schools and JCs for Pure Chemistry. Additionally, I offer tuition in Mathematics for primary and lower secondary students, and in Maths E/D, A Maths, Pure Chemistry and Combined Science for upper secondary students. I wish to contribute by enhancing and facilitating the learning process of my students. It is my hope that my enthusiasm and passion towards life and learning, by having specific goals, can influence my students and propel them to greater heights in their academic careers and beyond. I am able to start immediately, and I am able to commit for at least 1 academic year and beyond. It is my wish that I follow my students through to their final O and A level exams. I adopt different teaching methods, as I do not believe in a 'one size fits all' approach. I also get parents to cooperate with me in the teaching of their children. For example, I will request parents to supervise and ensure that their children do the homework assigned to them. I will also provide updates to parents on the learning progress of the child, and prescribe additional materials if needed. Besides teaching the core syllabus, I also get students to think about their goals and motivational anchors in life, so they become more disciplined and focused during my lessons. I also share tips and strategies for exam preparation and aim to enhance their answering techniques through practice. Students have improved from barely passing to either A1/A2/B3 in the final O Levels examinations.

Experience : Hi! I have a BA in English Language from NUS, majoring in language acquisition and learning, and an MA in Mass Communications from University of Leicester, UK. I currently work at NUS. I am passionate about languages and love to pass on that interest and passion to the young in Singapore. I started English language, GP and literature tuition during my JC days and early career, but had to stop later due to work travels. However I no longer have business trips these days. My work in corporate and marketing communications at a local Uni now involves a lot of writing and public presentation (speaking). I now teach from P1 to Sec 4. I believe that my love and acquisition of foreign languages like French, Spanish and Italian through private tuition is an asset in teaching it has helped me experience and understand the difficulties of language learning, and provided insights into teaching and learning a language. I am more than willing to teach evenings and weekends, so if you require extra resources for that, I would come in handy. I look forward to hearing from you

I am an exMOE JC Math teacher. I taught for 6 years each in the following junior colleges (total 18 years): Raffles JC, Pioneer JC and Nanyang JC. As a result of the experience gained in the different JCs, I am able to cater to different student learning needs in Mathematics. Besides teaching, I have also been in different roles in a career spanning 24 years in MOE e.g. Senior Teacher, HOD Mathematics, Curriculum Specialist in MOEHQ. Besides a 1st Class Honours degree in Mathematics, I also have two Masters degrees (one related to Math Education, and the other to "the Science of Learning"). Students under my care have produced value added results under my guidance, and achieved to their maximum potential for mathematics. I have given private tuition to students sitting for the Singapore GCE A Level Mathematics exam, as well as IB Mathematics (SL and HL). I also did relief teaching at various JCs over the past few years (e.g. RI, AJC, SAJC, NYJC, TPJC). A testimonial from a parent whose son I tutored (3 mths before his exams in 2016 thru Champion Tutor) is attached below: "Mr Teo started tutoring my son just for three months before A levels exams. It was a crucial period as my son was failing H2 Maths. Though it was so close to the A levels, he took on the task with confidence. My son’s previous tutor of 21 months had not made any progress with him. My son was comfortable with Mr Teo's approach. His explanation was clear and it was comforting to hear my son say "nobody had explained this to me the way Mr Teo did. For the first time I understand this.” Mr Teo was strategic in his approach and is experienced enough to meet my son's learning style & needs. Most of all he was patient and understanding as well as reassuring. I only wished that I had known about Mr Teo much earlier."

I only wished that I had known about Mr Teo much earlier." Last Updated On: 23 Nov 2016

I believe in using a processfocused approach in teaching chemistry and math in which we concentrate on the key concepts, as well as thought processes in answering questions and understanding topics for different subjects. For mathematics, this means starting with giving a brief but intuitive summary of the topic at hand and what can be expected in terms of exam questions, and then progressing tutorial/exam questions to build upon this intuitive understanding this will let us plug any gaps in understanding or misconceptions, while reinforcing ideas/question strategies that have been learnt. For chemistry, since a lot of the topics are interlinked (especially with physical chem topics), I like to begin with trying to build a strong conceptual understanding of how things work, before giving tools (the formulae, the standard answers, etc) to answer questions regarding the topic. For both subjects, I think a reflective review process is extremely helpful in identifying errors not just in how we understand the topic, but how we go about learning it. For example, if we find that we continuously get the same type of question wrong, this would generally be attributable to a larger conceptual error or knowledge gap in the topic. We will then need to work together to look for where the problem lies and how we can fix it.Besides this, I also like to emphasize on the studying/learning process in preparing for an examination. That you understand and can solve a question now, does not necessarily imply that you can solve the same question, or recall the same understanding during your exam. We will work into training skills and developing long term memories that will last at least until your exam.

I’m a Mathematics Specialist Tutor, not a generalist tutor. Unlike other tutors who teach everything, I chose not to. I prefer to teach only Mathematics. Therefore, you can be assured of the quality and standards that I enshrine in my teaching. I have 10 years of experience in private tutoring in Mathematics. I specialized in upper secondary, JC, polytechnic and University Mathematics. Other levels which I am able to teach include Engineering Mathematics (Polytechnic and University), Statistics (JC, Polytechnic, and University), Electrical Engineering subjects (Polytechnic and University level). I am extremely well versed in the syllabus and topics for H1/H2/H3 Mathematics at JC level. Being an extremely competitive person myself, I strive to impart this trait into my students. The feedback from my students has always been excellent. My goal is to help my students achieve his potential not only in examinations but also in his/her life. During examination periods, I make my schedule extremely flexible to cater to the needs of the students. My students improved an average of 2 grades after receiving tuition from me (i.e from D to B, or from C to A). I provide tutoring for University level Mathematics as well.

I have been tutoring for more than 15 years since my undergraduate and Master degree (ENGINEERING) days in NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE (NUS), specializing mainly in Math. I am familiar in the Math Syllabus in both International & local school. I have been tutoring students from ACS(INTERNATIONAL), SJI (INTERNATIONAL), Singapore American School, Overseas Family School and UWCSEA. I have coached students who did IB MATH, IGCSE and SAT. I have also taught University students from NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE (NUS), SINGAPORE MANAGEMENT UNIVERSTITY (SMU), SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (SIT) and UNIVERSITY OF of SOCIAL SCIENCES (SUSS) doing Calculus and Statistics. I am a Fulltime Singaporean Tutor who holds a Bachelors Degree (Honors) from NUS and a Masters Degree (GPA score of 4.5 out of 5) under a scholarship awarded by NUS. I graduated from Dunman High School and Temasek Junior College and I scored As for all Math subjects. Teaching Techniques. My teaching techniques help students to understand key Mathematics concepts and remember formula more effectively using basic Principle of Memory/ Mind Mapping. To enhance my students’ learning, I also complement my teaching with audiovisual aids via selected Internet videos. These techniques are very wellreceived by my students. I am always able to build a very good rapport with all my students. Being a fulltime tutor, all my time is committed to tuition and also offering advice to my students during my off time. Students who are looking for TUITION BY TOPICS are welcomed too. Say, for example, a student who wishes to improve his problemsolving skills in Geometry can request to have a specific number of tuition sessions, say total 4 sessions (2hr per session).

Have had a short stint of 6 months at Hwa Chong Institution in year 2013 as a teacher assistant/intern. During which, had headed 2 classes in H2 Mathematics and H2 Chemistry. Assisted in weekly H2 Mathematics remedial lessons for weaker students. I pride myself in empathetical skills that allow me to understanding specific difficulties of different students, thus customizing explanations and illustrations of content for students. Have just completed my Master's degree, have also consistently obtained at least A for any history and theory (writing) electives over the 5 years of tertiary education.

During my undergraduate year (Major in Life Sciences, Specialisation in Biomedical Science, Minor in Geosciences) at National University of Singapore, I was a recipient of the NUS Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship and was on Dean's List in the Faculty of Science for four semesters. Additionally, I was also working as a private home tutor. I have tutored eight students from secondary schools or junior colleges (from 2011 to 2014). As a private tutor, I could customise and accommodate my lesson plan to adapt to the learning style and pace of the individual student. Furthermore, I liked to motivate my students in their studies to work towards their future aspiration and the combined effort paid off when my students improved. Similarly, I also volunteered to mentor my undergraduate juniors in life science modules where all of them gave positive feedbacks and thus, encouraged me to go into a teaching career. Hence, I decided to become a fulltime teaching assistant at National University of Singapore to teach life science modules to undergraduates (from 2015 to 2017). Currently, I am working towards becoming a better teacher. As of now, I have taught five JC biology students, two from MJC, one from SAJC, one from CJC and one from SRJC. Under my guidance, most of my students improved, with the best grade improvement in H2 Biology from "Ungraded" to "A" for GCE “A” level examination within six months. I have also taught secondary biology in school as a relief teacher, and give tuition to four O level students. Most of my secondary school students improved under my tutelage, with the best improvement in Pure biology from "D7" to "A2". I provide my own useful tutorial questions to train my students to think critically.

Engineering by training: Graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Singapore. Achieved Dean’s List for 3 Semesters and was awarded with Cameron Medal and Prize (University Level Award) for being the best graduating students from Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) with specialisation in Offshore Oil & Gas Technology (Subsea Track). I was previously holding a scholarship from FMC Technologies, one of the big manufacturers for subsea production systems. Scored all A’s for Math and Science Subjects for “A” and “O” Level Examinations. Teaching by passion: 8 years of private tuition experience ranging from Upper Primary Mathematics and Science to Junior College Mathematics and Physics. Most of my past and current students are from Lower and Upper Secondary, thus I am very familiar with Lower Secondary School Math and Science as well as Upper Secondary School Elementary Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Pure Physics and Pure Chemistry. Believe that every students have the ability to master Mathematics and Sciences if they focus on understanding the concepts rather than regurgitating what’s taught in lessons. “Having an education is one thing, being educated is another.” ~ Lee Kuan Yew(the Prime Minister who created the first educational blueprint for Singapore’s junior college system.)
The Junior College was created to provide Singaporean students with a challenging environment that would help them develop their talents, both academically and nonacademically, throughout a rigorous twoyear preuniversity education program. In Singapore, a junior college is perceived as a key to unlock the door of university education. When compared to other postsecondary educational choices, the junior college is often considered to be the direct path to a university education.
Junior colleges adopt a lecturetutorial system which serves as an introduction to tertiary education which aims to develop independent learning and selfdiscipline in students.
In most cases, students enter Junior Colleges after completing 45 years of academic study at the Secondary School level (the equivalent of high school) and obtaining good grades for their GCE ‘O’ levels examinations. After successfully graduating from junior college, they have a 95% chance of securing a place in Singapore’s local universities. Parents with desires for their children to obtain a recognised bachelor degree from the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, or Nanyang Technological University thus place major emphasis on obtaining good results in the GCE ‘O’ levels.
“Junior College study is not exactly for everyone, students are specially selected with excellent academic grades from their GCE ‘O’ levels leaving examination before they are allocated into different junior colleges.”
During the course of two years, students will be going through similar learning programmes as what they have studied throughout the past 4 – 5 years at Secondary School level. The only difference is that the standard and level of difficulty in each subject is higher and more demanding at Junior College.
A student dedicates two years of his or her life towards pursuing an Alevel certificate which involves cumbersome amounts of advanced content that has to be absorbed during a short span of time. Two paths open up for a student pursuing his education from Junior College:
The sad truth is that some students who are not able to cope up with the tremendous pressure of Junior College end up in a university overseas or end up nowhere (i.e. they fail to obtain a place at a local university due to dismal Alevel results).
Proper guidance is thus vital for a student’s career in Junior College. ChampionTutor has thus curated a pool of highly experienced and qualified teachers which provide 1to1 JC tuition for all subjects including GP, H1/H2 maths tuition, sciences, and more – to maximise a student’s chances of earning a place in an elite university after Junior College.
Students get flabbergasted as soon as they land into Junior Colleges straight from Secondary Schools because the level of academic difficulty they encounter is significantly higher. Moreover, JC1 students have to cope with passing their mother tongue and their Project Work (PW), which is intensely timeconsuming.
By hiring a private JC tutor, your struggling child gets a platform to learn in more effective and efficient manner:
ChampionTutor provides a launch pad for its students to earn a place into some of the most prestigious universities in the country at the end of their twoyear junior college career. Invest wisely in your future by hiring a qualified JC home tutor to facilitate your learning journey.
