ANDERSON JUNIOR COLLEGE [...]
I came to Singapore on SIA Youth Scholarship more than six years ago to pursue pre-university education here. I got into Anderson Junior College and managed to do well for my A Levels. Based on those results, I was offered SIA-NOL Undergraduate Scholarship to study in NUS. At NUS, I studied Industrial and System Engineering (Hons) and completed my undergrad in May 2014. I also spent a semester in the Netherlands as part of a Student Exchange Program.
Having completed a major part of my education, I feel that it is now my responsibility to start giving back to other students through tutoring. I have been in the shoes of a tutee and understand the expectations and requirements from a student’s point of view.
As a tutor, I intend to apply my learnings from the three very different education systems that I have been a part of – Singaporean, Indian and Dutch. Over the past few years, I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds through school projects, internships, co-curricular activities and volunteer groups. Through these, I have picked up some valuable soft skills such as interpersonal skills and patience, all of which would help me with tutoring. Also, I have informally taught fellow students during university and JC and also my younger cousins. In addition, some of my peers have been giving tuitions for a few years. So I do possess an understanding of tutoring.
In a nutshell, I possess a good combination of academic qualifications, desire to teach students, experience with different education systems, soft skills and understanding of the tutees’ requirements and teaching experience.
