FAIRFIELD METHODIST SECONDARY SCHOOL [...]
I have had experience tutoring a group of ‘O’ Level as well as ‘N’ Level students for one year in 2011. I taught a range of subjects to Upper Secondary students ranging from the Combined Humanities (Geography Elective) to the Hard Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). However, I wish to teach at a higher level, thus venturing into teaching Mathematics at the International Baccalaureate level. I have gotten a comfortable 7 for these subjects as well as full marks (2400/2400) for SAT 2 Subject Level Tests. I have had experience teaching IB students last year for their exams. One of the students managed to improve his Math Grade from a Grade 4 to a Grade 6( Narrowly missing out on a Grade 7 by 2 marks). I am currently teaching a few IB students now, after seeing them through their Math IAs.
I firmly believe in studying smart, maximizing the rewards of hard work by using efficient study methods. Thus as a teacher, I stick to my principle that I have abided by as a student of focusing on the thought process and the conceptualization of a problem instead of the act of brute memorization and blind drilling. This principle is the backbone to my effective study methods. Basing my teaching philosophy on this principle, my students have realised their potential by learning how to apply the cognitive tools that I have taught them.
On the academic side, I was awarded the Dean's List for Physics in my cohort during my 2011 Promotional Exams and an Overseas Merit Scholarship from one of Singapore's biggest companies. Apart from academics, I have been giving tuition at the community level. My co-curricular activities consist of many events and projects management. As such, I am very comfortable around people.
I am a patient yet expressive individual who is jovial and friendly. As a student who has gone through a fairly typical Singaporean education system, I am able to connect easily with students and comprehend the various hurdles that they face en route to academic success. With that, I am certain that my novel teaching methods and my stellar academic record will go a long way in developing my student's confidence in his or her academic ability as well as helping my student excel academically.
