I am currently teaching in KL and would be available for Skype lessons first till July when I'll be leaving full time teaching for full time tutoring and to pursue my doctoral studies. A veteran language guru and linguist. Am experienced in online tutoring and GSuite teaching and learning tools/platform. I'm a trained teacher from NIE and graduated from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 2009 and was conferred with a First Class Honours degree (Distinction). Majoring in Malay Language and Grammar and Malay Arts as my Minor, I was on Dean’s list in 2009. I am effectively bilingual in both English and Malay. My written dissertation was on a study of the methodologies and approaches in translated texts as well as the comparative study of Malay and English grammar. I began my career in the teaching profession in 2001 and since then, I’ve worked with children from various multiracial and cultural backgrounds. My initial teaching years began in a primary school, followed by my stint in an established all boys’ Catholic secondary school in Singapore. I spearheaded various academic and cultural projects during those years of my teaching career in Singapore, which culminated in a 100% pass and 50% distinction and quality passes in Malay for the graduating classes, the first in the school’s history of 60 years. With my strong academic background and vast teaching experience, I accepted a position at Marlborough College Malaysia, Nusajaya, Johor, to develop and launch the Malay Language Studies Department in August 2012. I am currently leading the Malay department in collaboration with top schools in Malaysia in developing the Malay IB curriculum. I designed the IB Malay language curriculum and coursework for my school as well as linking up the prep school curriculum framework to the IGCSE course in the senior school. I also initiated in offering the GCE O Level Malay language paper in Marlborough College Malaysia. We achieved 100% passes for both the IGCSE (foreign language) and GCE O Malay exams, with an overall of over 50% distinction and quality passes for the department’s first batch of graduating classes. With the programs designed and initiated by me, I lead my department team in working towards excellence in the teaching methodologies and approaches in language teaching. I am a highly skillful language teacher, with over 15 years of experience in teaching Malay across all levels in the MOE setting and currently, teaching the international IGCSE and IB program, for both native and non-native speakers. My approach in language teaching takes on multi-disciplinary levels, DIs (differentiated instructions) and unconventional methods, with the aim of not just acquiring language proficiency, but to attain a deepened understanding and love of the Malay language and culture, thereby developing and achieving language mastery in the long term.
