ST. MARGARET'S SECONDARY SCHOOL [...]
As an ex-MOE teacher, I taught in Anglo-Chinese Junior School (Primary) for 6 months and in St. Nicholas Girls' School (Primary) for over a year. I taught Science, English and Math for Lower-Primary students and English, Art and Physical Education for Upper-Primary Students. My students received good grades and as much as I wanted to continue, I left the industry to care for my two children. I continued to tutor some children in English and saw good results, as they didn't just improve in their English grades but grew a new passion for the subject itself. I've also coached a Japanese student in Singapore in English, who graduated and has since left the country. I had a short stint teaching in a tuition agency but left after 3 months as I felt their technique was focused too much on drills and worksheets, with little time put aside to encourage a real love for the language. With a passion for writing and literature, I regularly coach my own children (13 and 11) who are extremely articulate and are consistently at the top of their class for English. I also used to teach bible class to children aged 9-12, and wrote their curriculum for half a year. I spent 10 years producing marketing collateral, events, scripting for videos and have conducted many interviews on video for an audience of more than 30,000. I've also hosted several events (freelance) and conducted grooming workshops for adults. My teaching method is as such: First lesson: review of of student's work, interests, areas of weaknesses and tests to ascertain the child's ability Second lesson onwards: target work on areas of weaknesses, strengthening of grammar and vocabulary. I oftentimes build on the child's interests, and introduce daily reading and exposure to language through as many mediums as possible, and that the child can relate to. I enjoy inspiring a love for the English language and hope to have opportunities to do so with my students.
