Classical Piano ABRSM[...]
I have just graduated not too long ago and have had the privilege to tutor one student in secondary three chemistry. The stint lasted a short while from August to October as she needed help to pass her promotional exams. Having a relatively short time to pull up her grades from F to a pass, I immediately went into the essentials as indicated in the syllabus and started to ensure that she could answer all the questions outlined in the syllabus. I'm proud to say that she finally got a B for her promotionals, something she kept telling me was impossible.
My teaching method is a reflection of my learning method from Junior College. Basically, I have always wished that I had the learning habits that I learnt in Junior College when I was younger. I made use of lesson time to the maximum and as a result was able to enjoy more time outside of school doing other things I wanted to do. I also realised the importance of having good student-friendly notes as well as topical drill questions which help students get familiar with questions that they may have struggled with in the beginning. As such, I will provide self-made notes that closely reflect my school's (River Valley High School) notes with some minor tweaks here and there to improve the ease of understanding for students that are struggling.
As for music, I have a grade 8 in classical practical piano and a grade 5 in music theory, both from ABRSM. Preferring to teach classical piano, I am a firm believer that playing the piano is largely muscle memory and a basic amount of discipline. As a teacher, I can provide the ideas needed for the student to play better both technically and musically.
