Bringing reading sessions home for kids

Education is the most precious gift you can give to anyone. And this was exactly what Ms Francesca Wah, felt when she saw the kids living in rental blocks. This 23 year old girl is a graduate in psychology from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She come from low income family and was incapable to pay the bus fair to attend the classes in her childhood. Thus, she understands the need of reading classes for such children.

The children in the rental blocks were not capable of attending the reading programmes due to lack of convenience. She was determined to impart them the reading lessons and thus, decided to make them learn at their place rather than to those classes, far away. A group of NUS volunteers, jointly with Ms Wah initiated ‘Bringing Love to Every Single Soul’ i.e. Bless, which included fortnight reading sessions for 25 to 48 children. The place of the classes was fixed at the rental blocks in Clementi and Telok Blangah.

They follow a very friendly and easy way of reading, with volunteers reading out the children’s books to a group of children. This is followed by the children reading out loud back, several discussions about the stories and much more.

Though, the ‘Bless’ group faced several problems like communication difference yet, their determination made them continue with the good work.
